💪 UNC Players Are Feeling the Cabrera Effect
Moses Cabrera, hired at UNC in early 2025 after serving as the New England Patriots' head strength and conditioning coach from 2016–2024, is getting noticed. A new feature from Inside Carolina details how the Tar Heels are more than a year into his program — squatting four days a week, conditioning and sprinting daily, and running additional work inside the indoor facility after standard practice.
Players have been vocal: "His program is a blessing," said defensive back Kaleb Cost. "You see so many of the guys improving their speed and strength and body composition." Head coach Bill Belichick credited Cabrera's understanding of how strength, nutrition, hydration, and recovery work together as football-specific training. Read More
🟠 Meet the Person Fueling Tennessee's Weight Room Results
Yesterday we covered the numbers — 867 pounds of muscle gained, 218 pounds of fat lost in 14 weeks under Derek Owings. Today, meet the person helping make that happen. Director of Football Nutrition Katie O'Connor joined Tennessee this offseason after two seasons running the nutrition program at Kansas. She oversees the training table, supplement protocols, and individualized nutrition plans for every player. Owings has been direct about her role from day one: "What steps do we need to take to get there? That's nutrition, it's recovery, it's practice plans." Read More
🏈 Kentucky’s Weight Room Renovation
Kentucky football is gutting and rebuilding its weight room inside the Joe Craft Football Training Facility. The UK Board of Trustees approved the $3 million project in late April — the day after the vote, the room was completely empty. The facility originally opened in 2016.
Per the Board's approval letter, the project includes electrical upgrades, new energy-absorbing flooring, and state-of-the-art equipment from Sorinex. New gear is already being loaded in ahead of summer training. The overhaul fits a broader technology push under Will Stein, who has introduced tools like the Monarc system and helmet-mounted GoPros since arriving from Oregon. Read More

💊 Did Creatine Put a Top NBA Prospect in the Hospital? The Debate Is On.
Darryn Peterson, the No. 2 prospect in this year's NBA draft, says doctors concluded that high doses of creatine caused the mysterious full-body cramping that plagued his freshman season at Kansas - including one episode so severe he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. "I thought I was going to die on the training table that day," Peterson told ESPN. He hasn't had issues since stopping the supplement. Not everyone is buying it. Sports dietitian Wendi Irlbeck MS, RDN pushed back on X: "Your cramps are not caused by creatine or protein. Creatine also doesn't harm your liver or kidneys." Make of that what you will. Read More
