On On3's RTI Low-Down podcast, insider Chris Low credited Tennessee strength coach Derek Owings with being among the first to sense something was off with edge rusher Chaz Coleman this spring. Tennessee parted ways with the former Penn State transfer Friday, citing a medical disqualification, after Coleman missed the back half of spring and was late to summer workouts.
Low's point for coaches: nobody is around players more than the strength coach. Owings - hired by Josh Heupel to toughen the program and, by Low's telling, the highest-paid strength coach in the country - picked up on it early. Heupel has said Coleman was working through some off-field things.
In a new European Journal of Nutrition trial, 38 trained adults took either 715 mg/day of DHA (an omega-3) or a placebo for 12 weeks, then did damaging eccentric cycling. The DHA group reported less soreness at 24 and 48 hours, recovered jump height and peak force better by 48 hours, and showed a calmer inflammatory response. The takeaway: a realistic daily DHA dose may ease soreness and support recovery from hard training.
In a new Clemson Wire interview, Buffalo Bills rookie edge rusher TJ Parker said the jump from college to the NFL felt smaller than expected in the weight room. Comparing his work under Bills strength coach Will Greenberg to his Clemson training, Parker called them "honestly kind of the same" - a nod to Clemson's development program.
It helps that the two have a similar history: Greenberg coached at Clemson before landing with the Bills, so he knows the program Parker is coming from.
