Good morning. Michigan's strength coach lays out his football-first philosophy, Carolina's S&C coach leans on a Cat 5 approach during the Cup run, and a longtime sport performance pro boils success down to two questions. Let's get into it.

Michigan's Director of Football Sports Performance, Doug Elisaia, laid out his philosophy in a program video over the weekend. "We're not trying to build bodybuilders," he said. "We're not trying to create powerlifters." Everything is built around football performance and getting players ready for the fourth quarter.
Elisaia followed Kyle Whittingham over from Utah after 21 years in Salt Lake City, and handpicked all four of his full-time strength coaches. He leans on the sports science staff too, with off-season sessions built off tracked speeds, velocities, and intensities.
As the Hurricanes chase a Stanley Cup, S&C coach Bill Burniston is keeping the message simple - win the day. In a WTVD profile (published Friday), Burniston pointed to the staff's Cat 5 approach - compete, care, and consistency - as the thread running through workouts, recovery, and nutrition. "We always talk about just winning the day," he said.
Burniston joined Carolina in 2015, years after telling his wife back in 2007 he'd find a way to work for the team. For him the run isn't personal - helping the players reach their goal is enough.
Amherst athletic administrator and NSCA-certified strength coach Jessica Lapachinski argues coaches have overcomplicated success. With all the tech, data, and tools now available, she writes in a new column that the game still comes down to two questions. How badly do you want it? And what are you willing to endure? Talent early on rarely separates athletes, she says - the ones who break through are usually the ones willing to work harder and tolerate more discomfort than everyone else. The tools keep evolving. The two questions don't.
