UNCW men's basketball has added Dr. Quadrian Banks as assistant director for sports performance, overseeing the program's strength and conditioning. Banks spent nearly a decade at Ohio State directing athletic performance for men's basketball, with NFL stops in between as a performance coach for the Colts and an assistant S&C coach for the Eagles.

He first worked with UNCW head coach Takayo Siddle at Gardner-Webb in 2011-13. A CSCCA Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, Banks completed his PhD at Ohio State in 2024.

In a new Sportsmith interview, Carolina Courage sport science director Mike Young broke down how he connects weight-room data to everything else his staff collects.

His single most telling metric: average bar speed at 80% of estimated 1RM back squat, which turns a routine set into an "invisible" readiness check. The bigger lesson is subtraction - he uses methods like Principal Component Analysis and random forests to strip hundreds of available metrics down to a few "actionable anchors." AI speeds up the analysis, he says, but "doesn't make the decisions for us."

The Gridiron Warrior Summer Summit hits URI in Kingston, RI on July 18, and the headliner is Dante Scarnecchia - the Patriots O-line coach with six Super Bowl rings and 36 years in the NFL - keynoting "The Standard of Offensive Line Play." Host Scott Leech runs the day from URI's weight room, joined by Jim Kiritsy (S&C), Andy Ryland (tackling), Jack Dustin (warm-ups), and Nic Keene (special teams). No slides, no podiums - every session is on the turf or under the bar. NSCA-approved for 0.3 CEUs, every session filmed and sent to attendees. $199 a coach, 61 of 100 seats left. Register Here

Bellarmine has named Jo Griffin assistant coach and director of basketball performance for men's basketball after four years as the school's head sports performance coach.

The new role keeps him focused on the team's physical development while expanding his involvement on the court. A former walk-on at Louisville under Rick Pitino who later played at Kentucky Wesleyan, Griffin said he's grateful to take on the "unique role." Head coach Doug Davenport said Griffin "lives and breathes our culture every single day."
