🟠 Tennessee Players Adjust to Derek Owings' Culture Shock

Tennessee hired Derek Owings from Indiana the day after the Hoosiers won the national championship. He replaced Kurt Schmidt. VolQuest's Austin Price reports it's been "a little bit of a culture shock" for players.

Nick DiMarco argues that mat drills and hell week don't build culture. "Culture = Values + Behaviors − Tolerance. What you allow is your culture." Great teams win with and without dramatic events, so they're not the variable. Daily execution is what matters.

He highlights Navy's Jim Kiritsy framework: define cultural objectives, connect them to behavioral objectives, then create technical tasks. George Washington hired Vincent Cagliostro as Director of Strength & Conditioning. Cagliostro comes from Stony Brook where he was Director of Athletic Performance and Sport Science.
