💰 Kentucky Invests Over $1M in S&C Staff
New Kentucky head coach Will Stein is taking a different spending approach than Mark Stoops—spreading the budget across depth instead of concentrating it at the top.
Stein allocated over $1 million to S&C salaries, led by head S&C coach Brandon Roberts and four assistants. The budget is $110K more than Stoops invested, but the key difference is distribution: Stoops paid his top 2 strength coaches $625K of $890K total, while Stein spreads it across five. 🐕 Dog Owners' Brains Are 15 Years Younger
A study of 95 adults (ages 20-74) found pet ownership—especially dog ownership—is associated with significantly better cognitive and brain health. Pet owners showed a 15-year brain age advantage, better processing speed, attentional orienting, and story memory, plus larger brain structures in attention, limbic, and default mode networks.
Dog owners performed best. The effects held even after controlling for global cognition, suggesting task-specific benefits from caring for animals. Read More
💪 Power Predicts Survival Better Than Grip Strength
Andy Galpin recently shared a study of ~3,900 adults (ages 46-75) that found muscle power significantly outperformed grip strength in predicting survival. The lowest power group had 6x higher death risk (men) and 7x higher (women) compared to the highest. Power—the ability to produce force rapidly—matters more than static strength for longevity. Speed and power aren't just for sports. Read More
