🟣 Kansas State's Jeremy Jacobs: Training for Discomfort
Kansas State hired Jeremy Jacobs from Texas A&M as Director of Strength and Conditioning, following new head coach Collin Klein from College Station. Jacobs previously worked at Duke and LSU and is a former U.S. Army Airborne Ranger who served with the 2nd Ranger Battalion from 2003-2007, including combat rotations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
His training philosophy comes directly from that experience: "How do we put our guys into situations where they have to overcome things now, so when you get into the fourth quarter, it's not the first time you've been there?" After the first workout, players told him it was the hardest workout they'd ever done. Jacobs laughed and said, "It's going to get even harder." He runs an old-school Olympic lifting-based program with players on the platform 80% of weight room time, teaching clean, jerk, snatch, squat, bench, and overhead pressing from the ground up. Seven weeks in, Jacobs says the biggest stride is "the mental expectation of what it takes to win." Read More
🥵 Sauna After Aerobic Exercise Boosts VO2 Max Gains
Dr. Rhonda Patrick shared research showing that using the sauna after aerobic exercise improves VO2 max more than training alone.
People who did 30 minutes of cycling followed by 15 minutes in the sauna saw greater VO2 max gains after 8 weeks compared to those who only did the workout. There's also emerging evidence for strength training—studies show greater increases in anabolic signaling markers associated with muscle growth with post-exercise heat exposure. The sauna isn't just good for general health—it's a tool to amplify the body's adaptations to both endurance and strength training. Read More
