🔥 Buff’s Strength Coach Turns Up the Heat

Colorado strength coach Andreu Swasey set the tone as offseason workouts ramp up for the Colorado Buffaloes, delivering a blunt message to players: winter training will push them to their limits.

With more than 50 newcomers on the roster, Swasey emphasized conditioning, work capacity, and mindset, warning players their heart rates—and resolve—are about to be tested. He stressed that the goal isn’t just lifting heavy, but building the fitness needed to consistently hit performance standards. Head coach Deion Sanders has publicly backed Swasey, reinforcing that offseason work will show up when it’s “showtime” in the fall. Read more

🏌️‍♂️ Lift Heavy, Swing Faster

A new study in the International Journal of Strength and Conditioning looked at whether a hex-bar deadlift PAPE warm-up could boost golf club head speed in collegiate players. Sixteen Division II golfers completed their normal warm-up, with and without added hex-bar deadlifts (3 reps at 60%, 70%, and 85% of 1RM). When the deadlifts were included, club head speed increased by ~0.8 mph on average, a small but meaningful bump for carry distance. The takeaway: a heavy, well-timed lower-body stimulus can acutely improve swing speed, even in a highly skill-based sport like golf. Read more

He joins SEMO after two seasons with Indiana Hoosiers football, which won its first national championship in January following a 16–0 season.
